Berlin Zoo

The Berlin Zoological Garden is the oldest and best known zoo in Germany. Opened in 1844 it covers 34 hectares (84 acres) and is located in Berlin’s Tiergarten. With about 1,500 different species and almost 20,500 animals the zoo presents the most comprehensive collection of species in the world.

The zoo and its aquarium had more than 3 million visitors in 2013. It is considered to be the most visited zoo in Europe and one of the most popular worldwide. Regular animal feedings are among its most famous attractions. Globally known animals like Knut, the polar bear, and Bao Bao, the Giant Panda have contributed to the zoo’s public image. The zoo collaborates with many universities, research institutes, and other zoos around the world. It maintains and promotes European breeding programmes, helps safeguard several endangered species, and participates in several species reintroduction programs.

The Berlin Zoo is easy to reach because it is located directly next to the train station named after it and is therefore just 2 minutes from the stop for two different underground stations and various commuter train lines.So just leave your car behind and ride to the Zoo in an environmentally friendly way using the commuter train, the underground, the bus or the train.

The Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten (Zoo train station) is well signposted – they will direct you to Hardenbergplatz where you can find parking as well as the Lion Gate entrance. You will find parking spots for a fee all around the Zoo. They are very limited directly at Hardenbergplatz, however, as it is often jammed with traffic due to visitors arriving at and leaving the Zoo train station.

Please be patient while looking for a parking spot or else make use of one of the nearby parking garages for a fee.

Schuler’s GastZoonomie

offers a wide range of food and drink in the main restaurant, the Woodland pub, in the Aquarium Bistro as well as in the numerous small kiosks.

Main restaurant

The main restaurant with its 200 seats indoors and 300 seats outdoors, it is the largest of all of the restaurants in the Zoo.
There we offer you an extensive variety of dishes including tasty Berlin specialties and international delicacies 365 days a year.

Woodland pub

The large beautiful terrace directly across from the children’s playground is an inviting place to take a break. The Nordic-style wooden house will spoil with tasty home cooking between March and November. Enjoy Grandma’s tasty country cakes.

Aquarium Bistro & Kiosks

Throughout the entire park we offer guests a selection of warm and cold treats and snacks depending on the weather.
The selection ranges from ice cream to fresh bagels with toppings to hot dogs and original Thuringian sausage.
